Chris was teaching how to take and hold our opponents back tonight at Martial Arts Planet. Tyler was his guinea pig and took a bit of a beating. We practiced good posture when moving from side control to our opponents back as they roll away from us. We also drilled which side to roll them to depending on how we are holding them.
Afterwards we talked a bit about how good posture is so important. Chris described it as having the submissions represented by the vast canopy of a tree that is supported by a strong trunk and roots made up of posture. If our posture is well developed in a wide range of situations then the submissions will grow and be supported from there. Chris just got back from a Matt Thornton seminar in Toronto and posture is foremost in his mind at the moment. I had forgotten the emphasis Matt Thornton places on drilling posture. It made a big impression on me when I attended his seminar.
Aidan and I felt a little beat up tonight. We need to get more sleep and to drink more water. Good night.
