You get what you accept

I am sometimes accused of thinking too much.  Ok all the time.   And being too uptight.  Honestly I think there is a difference between being uptight and having a few morals and principles.  I am so far from perfect.

If there are no police around is it alright to murder?

Is it all right to break the law if you know you won’t be caught?

Can you spread misogyny if there are no women present?

Should you let someone get away with a racist comment if their target isn’t present?

Where’s the line?  Who draws it?

I have a theory that was put forth by one of my bosses years ago.  It states that we are only motivated by two things:  Hope or Fear.  We either hope something will come to pass or we fear that it won’t.

I believe this.  Mostly.  What I have added is that:  In the absence  of hope or fear, it is our principles and ethics and morals that dictate our actions.

Some people seem to operate straight out of H&F.  It’s all they’ve got.  You only notice it in the quiet times.  When they display what seems to be, at first, an uncharacteristic lack of character.  Then you realize that they have no compass.

Anyway, here’s a cool video that hits the H&F people on the way down and the morals and ethics people on the way back up.  Cool.
