…….with my son.  A lesson on escaping quarter bottom.  Then he rolled in open mat and I sat on the sidelines.  No use making a bad shoulder worse.

It is good to be in the gym.

Held a big guy in my closed guard for…well forever.  I have only one truly usable arm so it was as much by necessity as for any other reason.  I was hoping to tire him out.  Eventually I realized the stalemate was unproductive and opened my guard.  Then we went until I was too sore to continue.

&$#$(*$(* shoulder.  It’s a bit better.

However slight – I’ll take it.

Rode my bike to work again today.  Almost 3hrs in the saddle.

Will pass on BJJ tonight.  I am tired and my shoulder doesn’t need to be tweaked.  We ARE going tomorrow.

My shoulder is taking so long to heal that I started back rolling tonight.  Aidan is gentle and I need to at least participate in lessons, provided it doesn’t hurt.

Tyler was teaching tonight.  Armbars from guard.  Some easy, some pretty tricky.  Aidan took it easy on me.  He’s grown again.

Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Pardon me?  Yes.  Still injured.  Yes it is taking a long time.  Very little blood flow to connective tissue and all that….  No I’m not getting any younger?  Yes I’ve had it looked at.  Yes.

Quit acting like I’m a teenager?  Yes that’s good advice.  Yes.  No I haven’t lost any more weight.  If I get sick?  I’m sure I’ll be fine.  Yes I am eating.  I know I’m not 18 years old.  Yes yes.

Nope I’m quitting BJJ for sure.  No more running or dieting either.  In fact I’m going to give up on enjoying life completely and develop an underachieving and self absorbed attitude just like everyone who thinks they know how to make my life “better”.   Wish I’d kept my fat clothes…oh yeah, never had any.

I don’t think much of people who resort to the use of profanity.  Guess that makes me a hypocrite.

I went to physio.  My shoulder was taped all week and I did my stretches and exercises religiously.

It actually might have, sort have, could have felt a bit better today.  Ellen used ultrasound, stretched it out and then did some acupuncture.  My first time ever.  Four needles.  One at the wrist, one at the fore arm and two in the shoulder.

I’d tell you if it felt better but Ellen taped it up again so it’s hard to tell.

Onward…

I’m going to move this blog towards a focus on BJJ and less on daily musings.

Daily musings, such as they are will be moved here.

Last night at Martial Arts Planet I watched Aidan work on side control in the No-Gi class.  A transition to harvesting the near side arm.  I spent most of the class on the side lines stretching and gently manipulating my shoulder.

Tonight, hopefully some in-line skating.  I go back to physio on Thursday.  No appreciable improvement so far.

The head of the humerus on my right side is rubbing on the socket.  The physiotherapist at the Kingston Downtown Physiotherapy clinic gave me some exercises to do with my arm supported, some stretches, and they taped the shoulder to try and get the re-alignment started.  I go back Tuesday to get re-evaluated.   Chris Wellstood had some success with his shoulder at this clinic so I’m keeping my fingers (that still have some functionality) crossed.  Kidding.  Everything has healed on my hand albeit a bit crooked.   Battle scars.

I want to be back on the BJJ mats as soon as possible but everyone is counselling patience.  Yeah…When have I ever been patient?

Stopped by and picked up Annette from work for Starbucks before heading home.  She had yoga so we had a quick latte.

Home now with a massive pile of laundry to fold.  Then Aidan and I are going to play a little guitar then some “Reach Invasion” with Liam.

Want to run but I’m afraid all that sweat will peel off the shoulder tape so will take another rest (shite!) day.

I’m icing it now.

Was at work ’til after midnight last night. Hmmmmm

Grabbed groceries on the way home. I can’t believe I buy groceries at Walmart now. Aidan lost his mouthpiece so we were late getting on the road to class

Tonight we went over hip bumps, guillotine chokes and kimuras at Martial Arts Planet. Tyler was teaching. It is “bring a friend to class week” so Annette came to see what it is Aidan and I do three nights a week. Cool. Laura was there watching us practice the very same move that broke her big toe this week.

Aidan rolled with Tyler and I rolled with a very focused Sheldon. He showed me a double leg pin to get past butterfly guard. I let him drill some things because I learn just watching him work the bugs out of techniques. Then we rolled. He’s smooth and I tapped lots. Did I mention he just got his blue belt? Oh yeah he showed me a cool way to get to an arm bar from side control that I’ll try with Aidan tomorrow.

THEN, we got stuck in the construction on the causeway. Got home had dinner. Now in bed with an icepack and a crick in my neck from typing.

Tomorrow is FRIDAY.

Hasta la vista week from hell.
